FIVE THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT ME

    Diana Killian Icon

And that WE never knew about YOU.

Yep, I’m still in Ireland — and hopefully I’m having a magically delicious time. Which reminds me, I better start dosing myself with Airborne.

So…I thought I’d make this a just-for-fun post. Answer or not, it’s up to you, but we’re all friends here and probably none too sober at this point. I’ll tell you five things you probably never knew about me, and you can tell us five things (you get to pick) we never knew about you.

    1) I sing “Wuthering Heights” the Kate Bush song on the READY FOR THE STORM album — and it wasn’t easy. In fact, it’s the hardest song I ever sung in my life.

    2) My passion for The Professionals has now reached the point where I have bought fan zines, collections of fan fiction stories. Can you say OBSESSION?

    3) I took fencing in high school — and twice beat our fencing coach.

    4) I wear Vera Wang fragrance.

    5) I love love love the rain. I never get tired of it, never find it depressing. Granted, I live in Southern California, but I think I’d be truly happy further north.

    Okay, how about you?

    1. Well, since Diana did her 5 things from Ireland, I’ll do 5 things from China.

I won a sexy legs contest at the company picnic from my first job after college. My wife entered the girls competition of the same contest and didn’t win.

Staying with the same theme with the fear of being tagged effeminant, I won a beauty contest (dressed as a girl) on the Carnival Fantasy. Had to dance down the auditorium to “Feel like a woman”. I did it totally sober.

I scored a goal while playing a game against a professional indoor soccer team and against a goalkeeping legend, Slobo Ilijevski in another game.

I always wanted to be a veterinarian, but didn’t want to go through 4 years of pre-med and then not be able to get into vet school.

I recorded the highest words per minute of anybody in my high school typing class.

By the way, my Chinese language skills have taken a leap forward on this trip. Only 1 1/2 weeks left.

    2. Five things, huh?

I played Blackbeard in Treasure Island, complete with eye patch.

I won the 100 yard dash in second grade for girls AND boys.

I was part of a study years ago after six kids in my tiny sixth grade classroom (including myself) were struck with appendicitis in the span of a week.

I homeschooled my girls for a year and have great admiration for the people who do this and do it right. It’s the toughest job there is. Yet you can’t help but see the benefits. B.E. Sanderson, I admire you.

Ashton Kutcher and I have something in common. We both have two little toes that are connected. Quack. Quack.

    3. Hmm, 5 things? Here goes . . .

~ I adore the final scene in “Dirty Dancing”–the one where they dance for the whole resort. I’ll always stop and watch it, never mind the scorn of others.

      ~However, I can’t dance. I quit ballet when I was 5 after two classes.

~I love to cook and am quite good at it, but I’m scared of making anything involving yeast.

~I once successfully (with 3 other friends) stalked Max Weinberg (drummer for Springsteen) in a hotel bar when they were in town for a concert and ended up drinking with him for four hours. He invited us backstage for the concert the next night.

~I’m related to the only person in America ever convicted of cannabalism

    4. Okay, I’ll play.

      1. I’m allergic to raw onions. Cooked ones don’t bother me, though.

      2. I don’t usually like my differnt foods to touch on my plate. Don’t ask me why. I haven’t got a clue.

      3. I do most of my writing during commercials while watching TV.

      4. I hate talking on the telephone. I’d much rather use email.

      5. I was once bitten on the thigh by a horse. Amazingly, it didn’t deter me from wanting one.

    5. Judy, I laughed out loud on your yeast one AND drooled with jealousy on the Springsteen one! And you didn’t CALL me????

Tori, LOL on the foods touching. I’m the same way! Though certain things aren’t ALLOWED on or near my plate at all. Like Broccoli. Ick!

by Laura on July 16th, 2007 at 10:58 am

    6. Ah, Laura, I didn’t know you then. Otherwise, the Jersey Girl call would have gone out. Next time, I promise.

by judy larsen on July 16th, 2007 at 11:14 am

    7. Holding you to that, Judy.

by Laura on July 16th, 2007 at 2:17 pm

    8. Thanks, Laura. :D

Oh, Tori. I feel for you on the horse bite thing. Why do they always seem to pick the thigh? And I thought I was the only person onions did that to.

      Okay, here’s five from me:

      1) I played Mrs. Gilbraith in our Senior Class production of Cheaper by the Dozen.

      2) When I was a kid, I didn’t want my ears pierced, then in college, I went out and got one pierced. Just to be ‘funky’. I had the loveliest pair of dangling leaf earrings though - even if I only ever wore one.

      3) My favorite artist is Bryan Larsen - a little known but brilliant guy. I got to hang out with him a few times when I lived in Salt Lake City.

      4) I’m a bird-watcher. (Which reminds me, I have to set up my feeder at our new house and see what I can attract.)

      5) I grew up in front of a garbage dump. As horrible as it sounds, it was a great adventure, and after the big machines would dig up the ground, I would go out and hunt for fossils.

    9. No fair, Diana. I already knew number one about you - I feel cheated. But your readers won’t if they pick up any of your albums - amazing voice - on CD and the page!

      1) Judy - I was afraid of yeast too!!!! I think it was all those baking books talking about how carefully you have to proof everything - ugh! Years of making pizza dough every Friday night have cured me of my phobia.

      2) I would leave my husband for John Cusack - not really, but it would be a huge struggle - maybe they’d even duke it out for me! Hey, a girl can dream…

      3) I would leave my husband (for the day) to have lunch with Joan Cusack (she seems like she’d be great to have lunch with).

      4) I slammed my son’s head in the van sliding door when he was fifteen months old. I’m convinced it’s why he scores so high on standardized tests.

      5) I have more in common with Agatha Christie than just writing phenomenal mysteries that will (someday) outsell everything but the Bible and Shakespeare - my favorite food is CREAM!

    10. Laura, I’m so glad I’m not alone on that food touching thing!

B.E., isn’t that weird about onions? I’m just glad I can still eat onion rings with relative impunity. :)

by Tori Lennox on July 17th, 2007 at 11:42 am

    11. 5 things.

I went to Girls State in high school and ran for coronor when the bets had all been for the head cheerleader to go.

I dropped out of school with three classes left for my masters degree in Public Administration because my husband wanted me to. (You didn’t say they had to be things I was proud of.)

I sing Kareoki (can’t spell today) not badly unless I try a new song and bomb it, then I’m the joke of the evening.

I’ve never been out of the country but once was 30 miles away from the Canadian/Idaho border but was afraid to go over (see ex husband comment earlier.)

I thought I had Rhuematoid Arthritis for six years until a new doctor re diagnosed me with another type (less serious) of Arthritis. (Which is fine by me.)
