Chicken Soup for the Good Girl’s Soul

    Regina Harvey Icon

I hab a colb. My nose bis stuffy. My heab rings. I hab no sick leab yet. So off to work I gobe.

Any suggestions for how I get through my day? Remember, I don’t eat chicken. Do you have other recipes for soothing my aching…well, my aching everything?

How about an anecdote that’s good for this Good Girl’s soul, at least? It might help me get through the day.

    1. Sorry about the sick leave, I don’t get any for two years but I have personal days so that helps. Supporting words, humm

It’s only two days to the weekend?
And, I don’t know what you do at the hospital, but maybe it will be fun with cold medicine changing your perspective. (As long as you aren’t a surgeon!)

    2. I’m plum out of anecdotes, but I’d say drink lots of tea. And maybe some shortbread cookies? Or snickerdoodles?

So sorry you’re feeling lousy. Can you sneak off and sleep?

    3. I’m a practical guy. Nyquil, or if you can’t afford to sleep, Mucinex-D supplemented by a couple of Advils.

Just don’t overdo the Tylenol. We had an expert in poisons talk to our chapter of Sisters in Crime and the ld-50 is now 16 xtra strenght tablets. Taken with alcohol, it’s 8.

Oh, we also learned the arsenic is still a great way to kill somebody. In literature that is.

    4. Hey, Regina. Sorry you’re under the weather. My home remedy is a cup of hot lemonade. Sounds gross, I know, but it does wonders for a sore throat. Hope you feel better soon.

    5. Thanks guys - I am drinking gallons of tea - my favorite for sick days is The Republic of Tea’s Honey Ginseng green tea. I think I’ll steer clear of the Tylenol (and the arsenic!) but I am doped on Sudafed, Zicam and Airborne! The worst is I have to fly on Friday and you all know how fun that is with a cold!

    6. Hot lemonade sounds wonderful - I’ve never tried that! (I also like the sound of shortbread - my favorite - but a cold’s probably not a good enough excuse to overdo the cookie thing).

I’d gargle with warm salt water - that always works - but I think my co-workers might look askance at that behavior!

    7. I find that no cold can withstand great doses of groupie sex and massive advances.

OK, you still have a cold, but you feel really, really good.

    8. I see David’s still in the throes of his ether binge.

I recommend hot toddies. A strong cup of lemon tea, some honey, and 4 shots of Jameson’s.

You’ll feel better in no time.

    9. Hmm…groupie sex or shortbread…

      Decisions, decisions…

by Regina Harvey on November 15th, 2007 at 11:56 am

    10. How about groupie sex and shortbread?

    11. I was about to ask a procedural question and then I thought better of it.
Who ever thought we’d degrade into talk of “relations” with multiple pastry chefs…sheesh…

    12. The Russians have a process.

Take a shot glass, and fill the bottom 1/4 with pepper.

      Fill the rest with Vodka.

      Drink the vodka.

Repeat until the pepper is gone - if necessary, reload the pepper.

I have allowed myself to be told that after a few of these nothing gets cured, you just don’t give a damn any more.

What, like you don’t have enough imagination?

    14. I want to have whatever it is that David’s been drinking.

by Will Bereswill on November 15th, 2007 at 4:24 pm

    15. When I was growing up, we used to drink hot black-currant juice when we had a cold. I don’t know that it made a difference, but it tasted good.

by JennieB on November 15th, 2007 at 9:21 pm

    16. One word - Dayquil.

I used to be partial to Theraflu, too, but I don’t know if they make a non-drowsy formula.

      :hugs: Feel better soon.
