    Same Time, Same Place….

    Tasha Alexander Icon

Sooooo…….I’m sure I’m not the only one out there who has spent the better part of the past couple of weeks in a state of, well, debauched debauchery. It’s all left me more than a little tired, and I’ve been fighting off a nasty case of plague. And rather than give a weak and pathetic account of the fun, I’m going to put it off until next week….the penultimate post before my research trip to Istanbul.

In the meantime, however, we do need some sort of diversion to get us through the weekend. Can ya help a girl out by answering the following questions? I promise I will do the same….

    1. What, at all costs, will you avoid doing during 2008?

    2. What’s the next book you’re going to read?

    3. What are your three favorite songs right now? I’m in dire need of new music.

    4. What’s your favorite item of clothing?

    5. Where, ideally, would you be next December 31?

That’s it for now. Come back next week, same time, same place, and I’ll fill you in on Mortification at Red Dog Liquors, the Cow Whisperer, Champagne in Cans, and the Blue and the Grey…..

    1. 1-Avoid? Getting behind in bills again.

2-Next Book, A great Deliverance, by Elizabeth George. (A gift from a friend)

3-Fav Songs? I only listed to country so here goes: Our Song- Taylor Swift, If your going through Hell - Rodney Akins and Nothing Better to Do - Leeann Rhimes

4-The two Simply Vera tops I got off the clearance rack (sorry Vera but that’s where I can afford your stuff) that I just love! The fabric is amazing and the colors so pretty.

5-I think I would like to be in Seattle seeing in the new year with my son!

Now, I gotta get dressed and get to work.

    2. 1 - avoid?

      2. next book? The easy answer is “A Reason For Dying”. I should have my proofs from my editor in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I’m once again setting aside “Kite Runner” in favor of “In For The Kill” by John Lutz.

      3. songs? APOLOGIZE - TIMBALAND
WAKE UP CALL - MAROON 5
      HATE ME - BLUE OCTOBER

      4. clothing? My green, golf print, lounge pants

      5. Where, ideally, would you be next December 31? I’m a simple guy that travels too much for a living. Home with my wife and family would be nice. Or Hawaii (specifically Maui, Makena Beach State Park, Big Beach or the even more attractive Little Beach or the Kohala Coast of the Big Island)

    3. 1. What, at all costs, will you avoid doing during 2008?

      Running in place, writing-career-wise.

      2. What’s the next book you’re going to read?

Haven’t decided. I just finished an ARC of Anthony Neil Smith’s new one, YELLOW MEDICINE, and boy howdy, is it good. While I decide between the selections on the enormous Christmas pile, I’m snacking on selections from THE BLACK LIZARD BIG BOOK OF PULPS.

      3. What are your three favorite songs right now? I’m in dire need of new music.

The ones getting the most time on the MP3 player right now: a live version of “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” by the Who; Tom Waits’ “San Diego Serenade,” which I’m learning to play on the guitar; and Fountains of Wayne’s “Traffic and Weather.”

      Ooooh,we belong together
      like traffic and weather
      ike traffic and weather…

      4. What’s your favorite item of clothing?

Right now, my long black winter coat.

      5. Where, ideally, would you be next December 31?

On a beach somewhere warm, countin’ up all that money from the movie sale.

    4. Great billowing clouds of envy that you’re going to Istanbul obscure the screen, make it hard to type….

      1. Since I live in Iowa, I’m going to strenuously avoid seeing even one more political ad in 2008.

      2. Something with a cool title from the “New Books” section of the library on my next trip.

      3. anything by Palestrina or Monteverdi

      4. My velvet hooded pajamas.

      5. Maybe Istanbul….

by Cynthia on January 4th, 2008 at 10:38 am

    5. 1. I’m with Dusty on this one. I hope to avoid the traps that don’t move my writing career forward.

      2. Not sure. But I have Borders Bucks burning a hole in my pocket. Whatever it is, it will accompany on my flight next week.

      3.

      Whatever it Takes by Lifehouse.
      I’ll Be by Ed McCain.
I’m Amazed By You by Tim McGraw–if anyone knows how I can FIND this song please let me know. It’s not on any albums I can find and I think it’s beautiful!

      4. Clothing? A pair of well-worn jeans and a tank top.

      5. Somewhere safe, warm, and happy.

by Laura on January 4th, 2008 at 11:11 am

    6. I realized I didn’t answer the avoid question.

I’m avoiding Fortune Cookies. They creep me out sometimes. Complete truth here. I had two fortune cookies in my drawer at work. Not knowing how old they were, I decided to throw them out. Before I did, I opened them and read the fortune.

Fortune 1 “You have a charming way with words and should write a book.”

Fortune 2 “Remember three months from this date. Good things are in store for you.” My novel is scheduled for release by April.

Stay away from the fortune cookie!

    7. 1. What, at all costs, will you avoid doing during 2008?

Um, hopefully I’ll stop paying for a gym membership I never use.

      2. What’s the next book you’re going to read?

I have a stack to choose from: Atonement, One Fell Swoop, and The JKane Austen Book Club

      3. What are your three favorite songs right now? I’m in dire need of new music.

Any 3 off the new Springsteen album MAGIC. I love it.

      4. What’s your favorite item of clothing?

Probably the pajama pants I practically live in and a t-shirt. Real classy broad, here.

      5. Where, ideally, would you be next December 31?

      Somewhere warm.

    8. 1. What, at all costs, will you avoid doing during 2008?

Climbing into the bathtub with a toaster.

      2. What’s the next book you’re going to read?

      Head Games, by Craig McDonald

      3. What are your three favorite songs right now? I’m in dire need of new music.

Rivers of Babylon, by The Melodians. Tangled Up In Blue, by Bob Dylan. List of Demands, by Saul Williams.

      4. What’s your favorite item of clothing?

Usually, it’s my Chuck Taylors. Right now, it’s my Obama baseball cap.

      5. Where, ideally, would you be next December 31?

On the beach with Dusty, toasting our mutual success.

by Sean Chercover on January 4th, 2008 at 11:47 am

    9. Sean & Dusty, can I play bartender for you both on the beach?

by Tasha Alexander on January 4th, 2008 at 12:04 pm

    10. OK, I said I’d answer my questions….

      1. What, at all costs, will you avoid doing during 2008?

I plan to steadfastly avoid many sordid things.

      2. What’s the next book you’re going to read?

Something by Jose Saramago. Either BLINDNESS or ALL THE NAMES, both of which come highly recommended.

      3. What are your three favorite songs right now? I’m in dire need of new music.

Well, as I’m the one who needs the new music, I’m not gonna have much for you here. Lately I’ve been listening to Sigur Rós. Haunting stuff.

      4. What’s your favorite item of clothing?

At the moment, I’m pretty much hating all of it.

      5. Where, ideally, would you be next December 31?

I still think playing bartender on the beach would work…

by Tasha Alexander on January 4th, 2008 at 4:32 pm

    11. 1. What, at all costs, will you avoid doing during 2008?

Over-committing and living on my laptop. No more 14 hour days.

      2. What’s the next book you’re going to read?

I’m tossing between Emily Benedek’s RED SEA and Denis Lehane’s GONE BABY GONE. Read the JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB last night, it was fabulous. Sly…

      3. What are your three favorite songs right now? I’m in dire need of new music.

Anything by Finger 11, The Strokes and The Editors

      4. What’s your favorite item of clothing?

I just sent four gigantic garbage bags full to Goodwill, so I’m going with old faithful, my blue plaid PJ bottoms. I must get into them now.

      5. Where, ideally, would you be next December 31?

New York. Might be fun to be among all that fuss. Not Times Square, but the city itself. It’s a thought…

    12. 1. What, at all costs, will you avoid doing during 2008?

** Running out of the building screaming.

      2. What’s the next book you’re going to read?

** Well, after finishing the one I’m in the middle of, The Princess Bride, I may dive into Elizabeth. I have a giant stack I could choose from, and it’s currently on the top.

      3. What are your three favorite songs right now? I’m in dire need of new music.

** Ooo. Just discovered Todd Carey. Check the title track from the Watching, Waiting album. Completely into Matt Nathanson now. My current fave of his is All We Are from the Some Mad Hope album. Let’s see…for the third, I’ll go with Melee. From their Devils & Angels album, check out Can’t Hold On. Really, I could go on for days…but then, I’m a junkie as you well know.

      4. What’s your favorite item of clothing?

** Funny. I’m wearing it now. It’s this green sweatshirt from Express that I’ve had since college. How it still fits is a mystery. It’s kind of magical…like those blessed pants. It just fits no matter what.

      5. Where, ideally, would you be next December 31?

** Headed to the Rose Bowl to see ASU play on New Year’s Day.
