    What Goes With Stranded?

    Diana Killian Icon

So in our last thrilling installment, Corpse Pose, the first book in my series from Berkley, had just come out — thankyouverymuch — and I was agonizing over the fourth book in the Poetic Death series. I have to say it was a little surreal revisiting those characters after a two year absence. In fact, to be totally honest it was a lot more difficult than I imagined it would be. In the end, I think I got back into the rhythm, the flow of it, but it was a struggle changing stride — these two series are quite different. That’s a positive in some ways, but in others…it’s tricky.

Anyway, now I just have to write the next book in the yoga series in — cough — two weeks, and I’ll be right back on schedule.

Meantime Sara, Laura, Reggie and I are all headed to Malice Domestic. Now, don’t get me wrong: I really enjoy Malice, but with two weeks to write 75,000 words…just do me a favor and no one tell me the math on that.

There’s also my travel record to consider. The fact that my flights always seem to get delayed — or cancelled — and that my luggage is always searched and generally lost. So naturally I’m booked on American Airlines during a season when more flights are getting cancelled and bumped than I can ever remember. That’s right. I’m feeling less than confident right now. I don’t mind problems so much on the way home, but I sure hate to arrive for three days of a conference without more than a change of clothes. Possibly it’s one of those finicky girl things, but I don’t think so.

After Malice, Sara and I are off on the Good Girls Road Trip. That’s right, we’re going to Pittsburgh!! Because when Sara and I go crazy, we go allllll the way. Actually, we’re headed to the Festival of Mystery It’s our first time, so it should be fun, even though we couldn’t persuade the other GGs to accompany us.

So if you’re in the neighborhood (either neighborhood) — or sleeping in the airport lounge, stop and say hello!

    1. Without a calculator handy, that’s about 5,400 words per day over the next 14 days, Diana.

      Sorry. Couldn’t resist!

    2. Child’s play. :-)

    3. 3.72 words per minute sounds less daunting to me. Of course that escalates to 5.58 words per minute if you give yourself the luxury of 8 hours sleep per night. If you choose to run on 6 hours of sleep per night, which should be plenty, you plummet back down to 5.31 words per minute.

Sorry, Diana, that’s the Wilfred the Engineer.

    4. If anyone can do it, Di, you can. Good luck, and have fun at the various conferences. Pittsburgh’s a lovely town; you’ll like it.

    5. Don’t worry. Laura’s just trying to scare you. 5400 words a day. Please.

      It’s only 5357.1429 a day. 223.2143 per hour.

      If you don’t sleep.

    6. I think she’s ignoring us, folks.

    7. She’s trying to get her 5,357.143 words in for the day.

I’m happy when I get that many a week. But then again, if I remember, Diana left the corporate life so she can write.

Be careful what you wish for.

    8. Don’t worry, Diana, since I’m driving you can write all the way to PA!! If that doesn’t sound like the most fun road trip ever, I don’t know what does.

    9. Sorry. Couldn’t resist!

Uh…remind me not to put temptation your way again.

    11. Child’s play.

True enough. I’ll be lucky not to be writing gibberish by the end of it.

    12. Sorry, Diana, that’s the Wilfred the Engineer.

Waaaah, can’t you just blow up a bridge like the other mad engineers?!

Oh, did your calculations figure in email time? I didn’t realize!

    16. If you don’t sleep.

Oh, well I couldn’t sleep in any case — not after you math wizs’s shared your equations!

Whenever I feel stressed I just remind myself of the fun I used to have.
