    Wedding Bells of Doom

    Regina Harvey Icon

My sister is getting married on Saturday. I have a dress (for moi), I have the presents, I have waterproof mascara. The only thing I’m missing is a good book to read during the boring parts of the service.

Just kidding. No need for a book during the ceremony. But a few books to get me in the mood for the day couldn’t hurt. And of course that means Wedding Mysteries.

Amazon lists at least a dozen different wedding mysteries. Many of them are the wedding-themed installments in a series dedicated to a certain locale, to a catering business, or to some other hook. But there is one award-winning wedding mystery series out there:

My very own chapter of Mystery Writers of America includes in its membership Laura Durham, author of the Annabelle Archer wedding planner series. Laura herself is a top Washington DC wedding planner and she has experienced some true wedding horror stories that would stretch credibility in any novel.

The latest in the series is To Love and to Perish. Annabelle is a suspect in this murder of “DC’s grande dame of bridal blowouts,” a competing wedding planner with whom Annabelle was last seen arguing.

Avon has cut its mystery line, but I’m hoping Durham’s series gets picked up again and lives happily ever after! Just like my sister and her hubby…sob, sniffle. Weddings always make me cry!

Any themed mysteries that get you emotional?

    1. Hey! Have fun at that wedding!

Several themed mysteries I enjoy (don’t make me emotional, though–except to make me LOL at times) are Heather Webber’s Nina Quinn mysteries–landscape designer and Susan McBride’s Debutante Dropout.

    2. I’m more of the thriller/suspense reader, but I really enjoyed Clancy’s Jack Ryan novels. I’ve been reading John Lutz’s Jack Quin novels (really intriquing character) and Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp.

      Emotional isn’t a word I’d use. Maybe it’s a guy thing.

    3. I guess anything that gets you really hooked and involved in the story is what I’m asking about. Crying at weddings, crying when reading - maybe not so much the latter. In fact, my fave reads are the ones that make me laugh.
