I’ve only got one more week in France, then a brief stopover in London and back to Sweet Home Chicago. Which makes it time to look back on some of the highlights of our summer:
1. No jet lag!
2. Walking everywhere….Trafalgar Square to the Globe theatre in London, Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. In fact, in Paris, we only hopped the metro once–when it started to monsoon rain and we were carrying paintings that we’d bought.
3. Having tea in The Shambles in York.
4. The Astronaut wanting to go straight to Westminster Abbey upon arriving in London.
5. Chaucer’s grave.
6. The Etna at Pizza Express.
7. Climbing the tower at Notre Dame.
8. Croissants in the morning. Baguettes in the afternoon. Cheese all the time.
9. Seeing the D-Day beaches.
10. Being with the best people in the world.
How about you? What’s at the top of your Summer-So-Far list?
Have a great weekend!

Sounds like you’re having a wonderful time!
I don’t think I have ten - it would take too much thought to come up with them this early in the morning - but visiting with Nancy Haddock in Florida was great, as was the BAT sandwich (bacon, avocado, tomato) at Mango Mango’s on the Beach, and watching the kids watch the manatees and dolphins swim by was pretty cool, too.

I’ve mostly been enjoying summer vicariously through you.

I object to your lack of jet lag! In Medieval times, they’d have burned you as a witch.
I’m so terrified of heights that I crawled between the two towers of Notre Dame.

Jennie, a BAT sounds divine!
JD, I have a feeling you could make a good summer list!
Jonathan, I COMPLETELY understand that. I’m terrified of heights—started rock climbing to try to get my vertigo in hand, and it really, really helps. Nonetheless, I was sweating and terrified starting up ND……

Highlights of the summer, hmm. I don’t feel like I’ve done much of anything this summer - it’s been wet and cool in New Jersey (In June we had rain for 25 days. It almost drowned the rose bush.) We did get the grill out a couple of times. But a lot of the summer has just been sitting around, listening to music, and playing with the kittens.
