I’m just dropping in today for a moment while I actually have a connection to the Internet.
My laptop is sick. I think it has H1N1. Heroic efforts are being made to save it, but it may be time for the dreaded reinstall.
I really should be doing my Christmas shopping. Has anyone else hit the mall? How bad was Black Friday?

I didn’t leave the house for Black Friday. But I got my gift for my son with free shipping from Best Buy. Now I just need to finish the rest.

I worked on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The major gift I have to get is for my husband and I think I just figured out a “cool” one — available online. Otherwise, gifts for my parents will be books so I’ll HAVE to go to a bookstore, isn’t that terrible?
Having worked in malls during Christmas before, I won’t go near them now that I’ve escaped.

I hate when I have to reinstall my laptop. It takes forever, but the good thing is I get rid of files and programs that I don’t use anymore.
Good luck with your sick laptop.
I didn’t go out on Black Friday nor did I shop on Cyber Monday. Of course now that both events have happened, now I’m doing my Christmas shopping.
Have a good Friday and weekend.

If you have a couple of computers at home that you use heavily, you might be well served by putting a home server appliance in and letting it do your backups and handle your storage overflow. It automates backup, and supplies a bootable CD that you can use in the event of a drive failure, and the CD will “find” the server and reload your computer to what it was at the last backup - and if you schedule backups daily, that will be no more than 24 hours ago. It also makes installation of a new and larger drive a piece of cake in any attached computer. I use it for my music and video collection among other things, and my church uses it primarily for the automatic backup - the appliances run headless (no keyboard or monitor needed) and are currently running less than $500 - or if you have a computer doing nothing, it is easy to install - a real server isn’t required for home use. Mine is built in the skeleton of a 10-year-old Gateway and even with 11 terabytes I have less than $1000 in it.
