…..I will be relaxed, golden brown, and have finished reading at least four books, happily ensconced in the Undisclosed Location of the Birthday Trip. But as I’m writing this, I’m up too late after having packed (if you’ve never had the opportunity to pack a bag without knowing your destination, I highly, highly recommend it), watching WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, knowing that I really, really should go to sleep.

My suitcase contains three bathing suits, some sundresses, and a bunch of books:

*MIDDLESEX, Jeffrey Eugenides (to re-read)
*THE BETRAYAL OF THE BLOOD LILY, Lauren Willig (scored an ARC; YAY!!!)
*A HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD, Michael Cunningham (have been pleasure-delaying this one for way, way too long)
*STEALING ATHENA, Karen Essex (can’t resist the Elgin Marbles)
*A MODEL SUMMER, Paulina Porizkova (who is absolutely charming and smart as well as drop-dead gorgeous)
*THE SNAKE, THE CROCODILE, AND THE DOG, Elizabeth Peters (a favorite re-read)
*HOW I BECAME A FAMOUS NOVELIST, Steve Hely (looks hysterically funny)

There can be no doubt this is going to be a week of unprecedented bliss. If I can, I’ll try to pop on and let you all know WHERE I am. Otherwise, I’ll give a full debrief with pictures upon my return….
