    Fade to Black

    Laura Bradford Icon

After three and a half years the Good Girls are closing up shop.

We’ve had a lot of fun around these parts—great conversations, interesting tidbits, fabulous cocktail parties, shared successes, and crazy life moments. But, as often happens in life, other priorities have swept in, making a weekly blogging commitment tricky.

You can still keep up on our various Good Girls through their individual websites (our links are found below our photos) and/or via the Facebook page Sara set up in order for us to keep a group presence. We sure hope you’ll stop by from time to time!

By now, all of the Good Girls have said farewell. Except me. So here goes…

    *deep breath*

When we started this blog in July of 2006, it was done as a way to gain exposure for us as writers—a way to reach readers we might not necessarily have found otherwise. And it was sound thinking. Did I get exposure? Yeah, I guess. And for that, I’m thankful. But it was the part I didn’t expect that means so much more. You see, by simply showing up here every Tuesday, I made some really wonderful friends—people who have touched my life in ways I never thought possible…

**There’s Judy, Joe, Sharon, and Wil who walked beside me in my very first MS Walk in 2008.

**There’s Lynn from Texas who walked one for me in her home state simply because she wanted to help.

**There are the countless readers who supported my quest monetarily (I raised $2,600 with the vast majority of that figure coming from people in the mystery community).

**There’s Kate and Karen who traveled hours (from different directions) to attend one of my signings this past summer.

**There’s Dusty, whom I didn’t know before this blog, who has become a good friend–driving an hour or so (twice) to throw a little moral support my way during a recent Deadly Diva tour in North Carolina.

**There’s the time I spent with Tasha–whom I’m didn’t know before this blog–which has yielded some of my most treasured memories over the past year or so.

**And, last but not least, there’s the other Lynn—the one who won one of my contests and became a true friend in the process.

My heartfelt thanks goes out to each and every one of them…as well as to all of you, my loyal readers (both silent and otherwise).

A lot has happened in my life since this blog started. I made the transition from small press to big publishing house (yay!), I was diagnosed with MS (and am doing very well, thank you), and went through big changes in my personal life. But, through it all, the GG clubhouse was a great place to hang out. Thanks for following along, I appreciate it more than you can ever know.

And if, by chance, you care to continue along with me, I’ve started blogging daily (Monday-Friday) on my website: www.elizabethlynncasey.com. Hope to see you there!

    With warm hugs,

    ~Laura

    1. I guess I must have come across GG as soon as you opened the clubhouse (still haven’t found that unlocked liquour cabinet yet…)
I moved across the country to the St. Louis area in May 2006 and GG’s has been a part of my morning ritual for as long as I can remember.

You guys have kept me sane through homesickness and breast cancer so for that, I thank you all.

But Laura - you deserve a special hug for taking a wannabee and giving her some direction. I really thought when you asked me what I was writing that day at Panera you were going to run out of the building. Thanks for staying.

    2. Glad to do it, darlin’, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Meeting you has been one of the highest points of the past couple of years. See you ’round the playground.

    3. Laura, I’m so sad to see this end. I found the GGs from one of your posts about how everyday situations make you think of how someone could be killed, which had me laughing out loud and being glad to know I wasn’t a homicidal nut. Then when I read about the mail truck going up in flames, I was completely hooked.

I appreciate your dedication to be here every Tuesday - at least I could count on that. I am glad to have started reading your books. They are a nice change from the heavier things I usually read. I reaaly enjoy how easily the story reads on the page, although I know it takes a lot of work on your end.

I also enjoyed the questions you and Tasha would ask. I may not have answered all of them, but it was interesting reading all the comments. Speaking of Tasha, I really am glad to have ‘met’ you and started reading your books. I like Lady Emily (and the rest) a lot, and can’t wait for the next book to come out!

Thanks to all of the GGs, and I wish you all continued success.

    4. I wanted to thank you all for having this blog - it’s 1 of 3 I read daily, faithfully. I’ve found some new favorite authors who are on my TBR list, as well as been introduced to new insights and things to ponder. I will miss the GG blog, but intend to keep up with you on fb and personal websites.
I wish you all continued success and happiness. See you in your books!

    6. And Laura, there’s peppermint hot chocolate waiting for you in Chicago……….

    7. Oh, you Ladies were my first blog–and while I’m sad to see you leave, I feel so lucky that I’ve gained two such dear friends in Laura and Tasha!

Hey Laura–let’s plan a trip to ChiTown to paly with Tasha.

    8. Thank YOU for taking time to share your sense of humor, your insight, and your experience.

Look forward to hangin’ out with you at the new address.

    9. I guess this means you have to turn out the lights, eh, Laura?

As everyone else, I’m sorry to see the GG site fold. For one thing, it led me to some great reading, and I thank you all for that. And meeting you, Laura, was one of the highlights of the year for me in 2009. More ice cream!

But most of all, I’ve enjoyed the banter and the glimpses into authors’ lives. It’s been fun. And the Good Girls Kill for Money name has been AWESOME. Best blog name, evah.

Best of luck to you all. Your blog is already in my Google reader queue, so I’ll see you at ELC, Laura.

    10. Just chugged the last of the Tequila, so no need to lock the liquor cabinet. I’m a sad drunk and I don’t want to get all emotional, so, I’ll just say, “Good Night Gracie.”
